Aurora has been away with Les Bran of Bran Fibre repairs to have a new thwart built. Not being a purest and finally having had enough of the ply thwart on the boat, although it certainly looked nice, I became a bit disillusioned with having to maintain it especially when I could not get the varnish to go off in the cold weather. For less than £200 Les was able to use the old thwart to make a mould for the new fibre glass one which is a work of art and every bit as strong as the old ply thwart but maintenance free. Les will be keeping the mould in case other Gull Spirit sailors decide have one made. I also still have the ply original that I shall keep for prosperity.
