Thanks to all of you who have sent me updates of your sailing this season. I shall get around to posting all of your pictures within the next few weeks. Keep them coming!
Firstly, some news from the North.
Fully restored and back on the water Paul's wonderful wooden Gull "Kittiwake" can be seen here once again under sail on Derwent Water. I hope these pictures can inspire potential Gull sailors to invest a small amount of time and money in restoring one of the many wooden Gulls that often turn up in the classifieds for a few hundred pounds. You can read about the restoration of Kittiwake here - http://gulldinghysailing.blogspot.com/2011/02/restoration-of-kittiwake-part-1_05.html
In Pauls own words; "I had the best days sailing to date today on Derwent Water, I reckon I've now done about 19 hours total so still learning (allot). I haven't been out since the spring due to the weather plus other hobbies such as biking and climbing and walking etc. But mainly because the lakes are so much nicer in the spring and autumn (far from the maddening crowd of summer). Derwent is a fickle lake for the wind but today a good steady 7-10 knots just right for a beginner. Last time we had about 4 knots gusting to 15, nearly capsized twice and ended up limping back to Nichol End half swamped! Not a good way to build the confidence".
Far from the maddening crowd indeed. That is exactly why you should try to join us in Ullswater for the 1st week of October and with the early autumn this year the Lakeland scenery is guaranteed to be stunning. For info you can call me on 07796990219.
