"Gullswater" 2011, part 3.

A nice day for sunlight but a tricky day for wind. Chris Yardley sailed his trusty mark III and Paul Bailey joined us but crewed for me instead of sailing his wooden boat "Kittiwake". We had a fast but bumpy sail to Sandwick, again!, but what a stunning location I'm sure you will agree (see panoramic pic above). The sail back was fast. Paul took the helm of "aurora" allowing me the rare luxury of crewing and relaxing in the sun. We spent an hour or so tacking back and forth in the area of open water between Watermillock and Howtown. A word of caution for anyone sailing in that area at the moment - one of the orange metal hoops that marks the rocks that are just below the water on the western side of the lake seems to be missing so take care not to hole you hulls. We eventually headed back to the pontoon at Watermillock, which was a tricky process with a strong wind on the bow.
Some great sailing, great evening meals, and great company as usual. Next year we're hoping to sail on Coniston or Derwent Water, so keep an eye on this blog.
